Huzaifah Ahmed, a 23-year-old boxer from Bradford, is on a mission to put his hometown on the map. With a 60-fight amateur career under his belt, including a Yorkshire title, Ahmed is now turning professional, aiming to make his debut before the end of the year. This ambitious move comes after a bout against Ireland's top-ranked amateur, which further solidified his belief in his readiness for the professional ranks.
Ahmed's journey into boxing began at 16, and he's since honed his skills, embracing the aggressive, front-foot style that he believes is better suited to the professional game. His idol, Roberto Duran, a former four-weight world champion, embodies this relentless approach, inspiring Ahmed's own fighting spirit.
The lightweight boxer is already adapting his training for longer rounds and increased mileage, a necessary adjustment for the professional circuit. His coach, Danny Thornton, a former professional boxer, plays a pivotal role in pushing Ahmed to his limits, ensuring he's ready for the challenges ahead.
Beyond the ring, Ahmed is deeply committed to representing Bradford, a city he believes has a positive undercurrent despite its reputation. He's made significant sacrifices, quitting his job as a ground worker to focus solely on boxing, and is now seeking sponsorship to support his professional career.
Ahmed's ambitions are grand, aiming for the top, starting with the British and Commonwealth titles, and ultimately the WBC world championship. However, his vision extends beyond personal success. He describes himself as a 'crowd-pleasing' fighter, hoping to bring communities together through the sport, creating memorable nights of boxing in Yorkshire.
In a sport where every punch can make a difference, Ahmed's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the potential for positive change. As he steps into the professional ranks, he carries the weight of his hometown's expectations, determined to prove that Bradford is a force to be reckoned with in the world of boxing.
